CUYAHOGA FALLS - On December 29, 2009, Adrian Aaron Trachsel died at home surrounded by his family. He had suffered a three year decline in health, which he faced with great courage, patience, and good humor. Born in New Philadelphia on May 11, 1918, Adrian lived most of his life in Cuyahoga Falls, although he most fondly remembered his farming roots in Tuscarawas County.
During World War II, Adrian served in the Seventh Army in Germany, France, and England. A graduate of Kent State University, he was the second of four generations of educators. He taught most of his career in the Twinsburg Schools where he was most devoted to his students and the young men he coached. His students always came first with him. After his retirement, he enjoyed working for twenty years at the old Front Nine Golf Course.
Adrian was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Laura Jeanne. He is survived by his loving children, Kathy (Ray) McDonnell who had been his caregiver; Cindy (Jon) Held, and Michael (Sandy) Trachsel. He also leaves behind his most precious grandchildren, Mark Mendoza, Andrew Held, Kathryn Held, Stephen Trachsel, and Emily Shrader. In addition, he leaves six great-grandchildren and one on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Dorie McDowell, sister-in-law, Lou Trachsel, and many nieces and nephews. He cherished his dearest friends, Ray and Susan Long. He also leaves behind his most devoted companion, Buddy.
Adrian was a quiet and humble man who always put others before himself. He will be remembered for his complete devotion and whole-hearted generosity to his family and friends. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. His family will strive to continue his legacy of love, helping others, and putting self second.
A celebration of his love and life will be held on Saturday, January 2 at 1:00 at Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front Street in Cuyahoga Falls. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Northlawn Cemetery. Instead of flowers, donations could be made to One of a Kind Pet Rescue, 1699 West Market Street, Akron 44313.
