CUYAHOGA FALLS-Altheda Marie Somppi, 87, passed away November 12th, 2013, at her home.
She was born July 10th, 1926 to George Edward and Anna Marie (Bohlen) Milner in the home of her grandparents William and Nancy Jane Bohlen in Orrville, Ohio. She graduated from North High School in Akron. She was married on Christmas Eve in a beautiful service to Arne Somppi and worked until she became a stay at home mom for her 4 children. She has lived in Cuyahoga Falls the past 60 years in the home they built together. She worked for Snodgrass Optical and Akron Board of Education. After her children were grown she worked at the City of Cuyahoga Falls Utility Billing office, where she retired from.
She was a wonderful photographer with the perfect eye for the portrait. She loved making memories for her family and generations to come. She had the documentation to become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, but was unable to fulfill this dream due to illness. She worked on the family history for both sides of the family and it took it back 10 generations, making copies for everyone who wanted one. She loved crafts, shopping, her grandchildren and traveling. She and her husband traveled to Europe several times to see their relatives. She loved being a mother and a grandmother. She was always there when anyone needed her. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arne of 57 years, her parents George and Anna Milner, brother Raymond Edward Milner and daughter Kathryn Ann Somppi.
She was survived by her sons Kerry Arne Somppi, Kevin Alex Somppi, daughter Karen Althea (Mel) Newsome; grandchildren Tracie Marie Newsome, David Paul (Nicole) Newsome and Jennifer Kay Newsome; great-grandchildren Noah Jackson Newsome, Faith Elizabeth Phillips, Lacie Elaine Phillips and Damien Marshall Phillips.
Friends may call 5-7 PM Friday, November 15, in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls. A graveside service will be held Saturday, November 16 at 11:00 AM at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville, OH. Memorials may be made to Falls Firefighters and Community Society Inc., P.O.
