Betty Tompkin

CUYAHOGA FALLS -Betty J. Tompkin, 76, passed away at her residence October 24, 2008. Mrs. Tompkin was born in Akron and had resided in Cuyahoga Falls since 1961, moving there from Brady Lake. She had been a financial secretary at Taylor Memorial Library and previously a secretary at the Kent State University International Student Union. She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church and a member of its Altar Guild and St. Theresa's Guild. Betty was deeply devoted to her family, placing everyone's needs above her own. She had been a member of the PTA at Price Elementary, enjoyed fishing, reading mystery novels and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Phoebe Fairhurst and 3 brothers and 3 sisters and is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bill; children, Vickie Tompkin, Cathie (Gary) Backner, Beth Strickland, Dan Tompkin, Sue (Tony) Rump and Mary (John) Cuppett; 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends.

Cremation has taken place. The Family will greet friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm Wednesday at The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday in St. John's Church 2220 Second St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, The Rev. Deborah Rankin officiating. In lieu of other remembrances, the family suggests memorials may be made to her church or your favorite charity.
