Byron Gray

CUYAHOGA FALLS – Byron Lyle Gray (By), 74, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio passed away on Saturday, August 4, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, due to the complications of Lewy Body Dementia.

Byron was born at St. Thomas Hospital in Akron, Ohio, to Francis and Matilda (Tillie) Gray on December 20, 1943.  He went to Cuyahoga Falls High School and graduated in 1961.  He attended Kent State University in 1961 and was a Student Manager of the basketball team.  He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.  He was primarily based in Arizona at Fort Huachuca during his years of service.  Byron worked at the B and O Railroad Company, Massey Ferguson, Goodyear Aerospace, and retired from Ford Motor Company after fifteen years of service.   Throughout the years, Byron enjoyed dancing at the Singles Club at Guy’s Party Center especially with dear friends, Vickie Kaiser and Sue Elsass.  Byron was a very active euchre player over the years at many local places where he enjoyed the fellowship of other euchre players.  Byron enjoyed being a member of the CFHS Class of 1961 Reunion Committee over the years and spoke glowingly of his classmates and their accomplishments.

Byron is survived by his twin brother, Myron “Butch” Gray (Elaine) of Munroe Falls, Ohio, his daughter, Amanda Diaz (Andre) of Charlotte, NC, his grandchildren, Olivia, Madelynn, and Quinn Diaz, and his sister-in-law, Peg Gray, and many nieces and nephews, in addition to several cousins.  Byron was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Matilda (Tillie) Gray and his brothers, Dan Gray and Gordon “Herk” Gray.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 8, 2018, 4 to 7 p.m. at Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front Street, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, where a funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. to be conducted by Myron T. Gray, Byron’s twin.  A private family burial will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Thursday, August 9, 2018.  In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to your favorite charity in Byron L. Gray’s honor.
