BOSTON HEIGHTS - Carol G. Chamberlain of Boston Heights, Ohio passed away peacefully at the Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson, Ohio on January 1, 2017 at the age of 94.
Carol is survived by her two godsons, Nicholas B. and Daniel J. Rajkovich and their parents Nicholas J. and Ronelle B. Rajkovich. She was preceded in death in 2000 by her lifelong friend, Delphine M. Harstine.
Carol was born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio to Vern Chamberlain and Oma (nee Ozmun). She was a fifth generation descendent of Isaac and Maria Ozmun, one of the first families to settle in the Cuyahoga River Valley. Their farmstead, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was constructed in 1808 and is among the first brick houses built in Summit County.
Carol graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School, and Kent State University with bachelor's and master's degrees in physical education. She taught for 37 years in the East Cleveland school system. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls where her mother taught Sunday school for 50 years. She was very involved in the mission work of the UMW (United Methodist Women) and supported the music and education departments of the church.
Carol was very fond of travel. She travelled extensively in the United States and Canada and in Europe with numerous trips to Germany and Austria. She was a skilled bridge and cribbage player, loved to knit, crochet and do counted cross stitch, and volunteered her time at local schools as a teacher's aide long after her retirement. She also participated in many activities and volunteered at Laurel Lake Community where she lived for 13 years
At Carol's request, no funeral or memorial service is scheduled. Her ashes will be interred at Forest View Cemetery in Boston Heights. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the music or education departments of the First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221-3274. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
