Catherine Ann Wyant, “Kay” (Raycraft - Korb)

August 8, 1934 - January 31, 2025

Catherine Ann Wyant, lovingly known as “Kay,” was born on August 8, 1934, in Andover, Massachusetts, to James and Ann Raycraft. She graduated from Lawrence High School and attended Lowell State Teachers College before choosing a path of service by joining the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Kay proudly served for two years as a Block Control Clerk in West Palm Beach, Florida, earning the National Defense Service Medal.

In 1956, Kay moved to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, where she built a wonderful life and community. In 2012, she and her beloved husband, James Wyant, moved to Copeland Oaks Retirement Community in Sebring, Ohio. After James’ passing, she relocated to Seville, Ohio, to be closer to her family.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Wyant; her sister, Lois Johnson; her brother, James Raycraft III; her stepdaughter, Patti Hill; her stepson, James Wyant; her grandson, Jimmy Wyant; and her son-in-law, Brian Abel.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness in the hearts of her family. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Abel; her son, David Korb (Kelly); her grandchildren, John Paul McIntyre (Traci), Jennifer Blados (Joe), Matthew Korb (Lauren), and Jerrica Pawlus (Devon); and her great-grandchildren, Joey Blados, Jimmy Blados, Noah Pawlus, Brea Pawlus, Riley Korb, and Cameron Korb. Kay is also survived by her stepdaughters, Shirley McLaughlin, Delores Posey (Jerry), Barbara Hawk (David), Brenda Rush, and Karen Burwell (Brian).

Kay dedicated much of her life to caring for and guiding children. She retired as an assistant to the Vice President at Kids Play Childcare Center and previously served as Administrator/Director for Trinity Childcare Center in Cuyahoga Falls. She continued her education in early childhood development at the University of Akron and was actively involved with the United Methodist Women, serving as both a District and Conference Officer. Her faith and passion for education led her to the School of Missions, where she served as both a Dean and an Instructor.

At Copeland Oaks, Kay’s love of books found a home in the community library, where she helped organize donations and recommend books to fellow residents while serving as a Librarian. She also found joy in singing in the Chorale. In Seville, she became an active member of Seville United Methodist Church, attending Bible study and joining the Thursday morning bazaar group, where she enjoyed crafting and making cards-though she may have loved the post-crafting lunches just as much! Friday night dinners and card games with dear friends became a highlight of her week.

Kay will be remembered for her warm heart, unwavering faith, and the way she made everyone feel welcome. She leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories and a family who will cherish her always.
