CUYAHOGA FALLS -- David M. Turney, 66, passed away on April 16, 2016.
David was born August 28, 1949 to George and Carolyn (Scott) Turney in Detroit, Mich., but his heart has always been in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where generations of Turneys have vacationed in DeTour Village since 1927.
David was a lifelong public servant, first in the U.S. NAVY and then as a deputy sheriff in both Summit and Medina counties. He spent the last 25 years of his career working as a forensic investigator for the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office, where he felt it was his mission to make sure no one died anonymously and worked tirelessly to find next of kin for everyone, regardless of their circumstances.
David was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and the Quirk Cultural Center Woodcarving Group, where he created beautiful and unique walking sticks that he enjoyed giving to friends, family, and especially, strangers.
David is survived by his loving and patient wife of more than 40 years, Becki and their children, Jennifer of New York City, Kerrie of Nashville, Tenn., Andrew and Jonathan of Cuyahoga Falls, and Caitlin of Akron; devoted brother, Jim of Cuyahoga Falls; sisters Harriet (Marti) of Phoenix and Miriam (Jeff) Wilson of Honomu, Hawaii; sisters-in-law Cindy (Jim) Anderson and Teri (Jim) Kamm; brothers-in-law Jim (Diane) Horovitz and Brad (Laura) Horovitz; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends Cliff and Claudia Scott, and Brian and Connie Claflin and family.
The family will welcome friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 20 at The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 21 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 2121 6th St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, with Pastors Robert Linsz and W. James Case officiating.
