Dolores Balogh

April 25, 1926 — May 22, 2021

Dolores Balogh

Dolores (Columba) Balogh entered eternal sleep of peace on Saturday, May 22, 2021.  Life was never easy for her, but she always met its challenges with a positive and optimistic attitude.  She was a wonderful role model and an inspiration to all who knew her.

Dolores was born April 25, 1926 in Akron to Frederico and Angelina Giovannini.  She recently celebrated her 95th birthday.  She attended Bryan School and graduated from North High School.  She worked for a short time for the Ration Board during the few months prior to the end of World War II.  She then went to work for the House of LaRose as secretary to Mr. LaRose.

She married Frank Balogh on February 19, 1949.  Two children, a daughter and a son were born from that union.  Dolores loved being a wife and mother.  She was active in her children's school events and was a cub scout den mother.  She enjoyed her volunteer work with Mobile Meals.  She was a founding member of St. Eugene's Catholic Church and active in the Altar and Rosary Society there.  Dolores participated in ceramics classes with friends, creating many gifts for friends and family.  She enjoyed gardening, traveling with her family, shopping, and cooking delicious meals.  Her pies and cookies were a treat for all.  Her home was always a welcome drop in spot--no need to call ahead.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her cherished grandson Andrew Balogh, son-in-law Jerry Hunter, sisters Julia (Albert), Teresa (Louie), brothers Louis (Mary), Joe (Frances), infant twin brother and sister Donald and Diana, brothers-in-law Joseph (Rose), Jim (Kay), Charles (Lena), Ernie (Jean).  She is survived by husband Frank, daughter Anita Hunter, son and daughter-in-law Fred and Joell Balogh, brother Donald Giovannini, foster son Kurt, sister-in-law Ann Wingerter (Todd), special niece and nephew Diane and Ed who were her "wheels" the last few years, and many other nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Our thanks to special friends Margaret and Nancy who frequently brought meals along with comfort and companionship.  Thank you to her faithful and loving caregiver Wendy who went beyond her job description and became a member of the family.  Thank you also to the caregivers from First Light, Summa Health At Home staff and Summa Hospice, especially nurse Sue and chaplain Terry whose kind and loving hearts and hands helped Dolores transition to her place among the angels.

If I Should Go Tomorrow - author unknown

If I should go tomorrow
It would never be goodbye,
For I have left my heart with you,
So don't you ever cry.
The love that's deep within me,
Shall reach you from the stars,
You'll feel it from the heavens,
And it will heal the scars.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 11 am, with visitation one hour prior to Mass from 10-11 am at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 1821 Munroe Falls Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221.  She will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Summa Health at Home and Hospice, 141 Forge St. Akron, OH 44304 or St. Eugene Catholic Church.
