CUYAHOGA FALLS -Donald L. Smith, 83, died at his residence Sept. 21, 2012 following a long illness. Mr. Smith was born in Akron and raised in Newark, graduating from Newark High School where he had been inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame for football, basketball and baseball. He had been 1st team All-Ohio in Basketball. A resident of Cuyahoga Falls for 55 years, he was a member of the First Christian Church of Cuyahoga Falls and was a Veteran of the Korean War having served with the U. S. Navy. He retired in 1985 as an office scheduler for B. F. Goodrich with 30 years service.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his son, David and is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Terry Smith; daughter and son-on-law, Kim and Tom Stickel, all of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren, Brandi, Ryan, Carly, Lauren and Jessica and great-grandchildren, Alexa and Lila.
There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be conducted Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at 2:00 pm in The First Christian Church 2253 3rd St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, Rev. Gail Lindsey officiating. Final resting place Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of other remembrances, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or Akron General Hospice and Palliative Care, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, OH 44333.
