Donald W. Smith

Stow- Donald W. Smith, 93, passed away on May 14 after a long battle with Alzheimers Disease. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. Don worked as an administrative manager for WESCO for 44 years. A job transfer brought him and his growing family to Akron. Don enjoyed music, golfing, playing bridge, cruises, and traveling. He also loved the Steelers. He volunteered at Good Neighbors, Mobile Meals and ushered at Akron Civic and E.J. Thomas. Active in his church, St John’s Episcopal, Don sang in the choir for many years.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Anne Smith and sister, Annette.

His kind and gentle presence will be missed by his wife of 65 years, Dee, his five children—Dona (Steve) Stein, Janet, Beverly (David Kennedy), Larry and David, and two grandchildren, Jake (Kat) Stein and Gerard Stein as well as cousins Karen and Kathleen Caddick, sister-in-law Phoebe Dixon, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don’t cry because he is gone but smile because he was here.

A memorial service will be held at St. John Episcopal Church, 2220 2nd St, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, at 11 am on Friday, May 26. Family will receive friends one hour before the service for visitation.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, Good Neighbors or the Alzheimer’s Association.
