Dorothy J. Hazen

Dorothy Jean Hazen (née Fox), a resident of Cuyahoga Falls for over 70 years, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025, at the age of 94. In 1951, Dorothy married the love of her life, Leonard Leroy Hazen. They shared a beautiful marriage until his passing in 2009. Together, they built a family and life rooted in love, community, and joyful tradition.

Dorothy was a devoted mother to her two daughters, Paula Pearson and Cynthia Ott, and a proud grandmother (Mimi) to Colin, Cameron (wife, Tiffany), and Jessica (husband, Winston). She also cherished her role as great-grandmother to three adored great-grandchildren: Rachel, Kiya, and Lincoln.

A pillar of her community, Dorothy generously gave her time to many organizations, including the Cuyahoga Falls Woman’s Club, the YMCA, Girl Scouts, Preston Elementary PTA, and as a volunteer at the voting polls during many elections. She was a faithful and active member of Northminster Presbyterian Church of Cuyahoga Falls, where she served as both a Deacon and an Elder.

Creative and thoughtful, Dorothy had a talent for handmade arts—her embroidered artwork, intricate needlework, and floral arrangements brought joy to those around her. She also took pride in gardening, cultivating an array of flowers that adorned her property. A lover of fiction and scripture alike, she was often found reading a good novel or her Bible. She adored listening to piano music and treasured evenings spent dressed up and dancing with Leonard.

Known for her warmth and kindness, Dorothy formed lasting friendships with neighbors and families throughout the years. Those who knew her closely will fondly remember her incredibly fun sense of humor, and many will be quoting her for years to come! One of her favorite daily routines included giving treats to the neighbors’ dog, Maggie, whom she jokingly referred to as her own—saying the neighbors were just dog-sitting!

Dorothy’s greatest pride was her family - her legacy of love, creativity, and service lives on through them. She will be deeply missed by the many people who loved her, including close family friends—the Geopferts, Steinwedels, McNicholases—and countless others she touched through the years.

The interment of Dorothy’s ashes will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband. The family will be postponing the Memorial Service and Celebration of Life until later in the year and will share details soon.
