Douglas Mate, 58, of Cuyahoga Falls, died unexpectedly September 5, 2021, at Midvale Speedway. Doug was born in Akron to Pete and Virginia Mate and was a life-long resident of Cuyahoga Falls.
Doug’s passion for racing started when he was 16 and never diminished. He loved building and driving race cars and was well-known at all the tracks in the area. His extensive knowledge of cars prompted him to open his own shop, Cuyahoga Falls Transmission, in the early 90’s. Doug was a good-natured, well-respected mechanic and always willing to help anyone, at any time. Being self-employed allowed him more time for all things racing and long hours at the shop working on his cars. Doug was also an avid Harley rider.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving son, Paul (Mackenzie Meyer); bonus kids, Melanie and Logan Brenneman; sister, Leslie (John) Feddor; nephew and niece, Johnny Feddor and Amber (Mickey) Cook; girlfriend, Wendy Barnett, and a multitude of friends near and far.
A memorial visitation will be held at the Clifford Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front Street Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, on Tuesday September 21, 2021, from 3pm to 7pm. Immediately following the visitation there will be a memorial service at 7pm.
The family requests casual dress-racing shirts or Harley clothes are welcome.
He will always be in our hearts, because there he is still alive.
Arrangements entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
