SILVER LAKE - George P. Wolfe Sr., passed away peacefully at home on September 23rd, 2017, surrounded by his loving wife and family. George and his wife, Nancy of 60 years, resided in Silver Lake for many years, and spent winters warm and together in Inverness, Florida.
George was born November 9th, 1930 to Anthony and Vera Wolfe in Niles, Ohio and served his country in the United States Army from 1954, until 1956 when he was honorably discharged as a SPC3.
George attended, and graduated from Ohio Northern University with a Doctor of Pharmacy, and from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, as an Osteopathic Physician, Phi Beta Kappa. George completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Green Cross Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls, where he faithfully and lovingly served the health care needs of his patients in his Cuyahoga Falls practice for his entire 50-year career. He was Fellowed by the American College of Osteopathic Internists (FACOI), was a published author of several clinical studies, and was an associate professor of medicine at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He served as the Director of ICU/CCU, Endoscopy, and served as Medical Education Director at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital. He was a beloved colleague, learned educator, compassionate physician, and dear friend to many during his professional career.
George was a devout Christian, was a member of Silver Lake Country Club, an avid outdoorsman and fisherman, as well as a dedicated Ohio State Buckeye, and Cleveland Indians, Browns, and Cavaliers fan.
George is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, George, Jr. of Peninsula; daughter Mary Beth (Dr. Paul Jones) of Stow; grandchildren, Nancy, Jason, Travis and Derek; sister, Betty; and many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Vera (DeChristopharo), and brother, William.
To honor his wishes, there will be a private family memorial service only, and no calling hours.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation be made in George’s name to the Make A Wish Foundation. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
