Edna M. Truby, age 100, passed away May 5, 2022, at the Danbury in Tallmadge. Born in Elyria, Ohio to the late Henry and Agnes Townsend, she graduated from Elyria High School in 1939. She later served in the Waves in World War II, stationed in Jacksonville, Florida where she met her future husband, Elmer “Jim” Truby, a Navy pilot. After the war, they moved to Akron, Ohio where Jim worked and retired from Goodyear, passing away in 1982. Together, they traveled the world while her husband worked for Goodyear; living in South Africa, Australia and Mexico; making many friends internationally. In her retirement years, she was quite active at the Falls Natatorium. Her children bought her padded bicycle pants to wear for her spinning classes at the “Nat” when she was 90 years young.
Edna had the privilege of going on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. for World War II Veterans when she was 96 years old. Edna was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ for over 65 years. She was extremely proud of her English heritage, as her parents came through Ellis Island early in the last century. The captain of their ship went on to captain another ship much more well known as the “Titanic”. Edna was quite active and remained mentally sharp. Recently, when her son informed her of the amount of taxes owed to the IRS, she replied “it’s President Biden’s fault”.
Preceded in death by her parents; brother, Oliver; and youngest child, Peggy McVan. Survived by her son, Timothy Truby (Susan); daughter, Patricia Kohler; son-in-law, Patrick McVan; and grandchildren, Todd Truby (Sandy), Alise Price (Jerry), Anna Haney (Mike), Kara Brooks (Jack), Andy McVan (Vicki), Megan Ferda (Steve), and Christy Zedaker (Dave); and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, Edna would want you to make a donation to the pet charity of your choice.
