Edward C. Montgomery, 85, passed away March 4, 2006. Mr. Montgomery was born in Framingham, Mass and had resided in Cuyahoga Falls since 1954. He had served with the U. S. Air Force during WW2 as 2nd Lieutenant as a navigator with the 337th Bombardment Squadron, 96th Bombardment Group. He completed 11 combat missions, was shot down in combat and became a prisoner of war in Stalag Luft III in Germany. He was decorated with the Purple Heart and the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
After the War, he graduated with honors from Northeastern University in Boston with a BS of Science in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Phi, the Engineering Honor Society and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
He had worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 36 years of continuous service as a Chemical Engineer and was a longtime active member of the First Congregational Church of Akron.
He joins brothers, Warren and Richard and brother-in-law, Bob Johnson who preceded him in death and is survived by his wife, Dorothy (nee Lakins); daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Carl Konen of Cuyahoga Falls; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Laura of Conroe, TX; granddaughters, Megan and Melissa Montgomery and Emily Konen; brothers, Harry (Anna) of Mass., Robert (June) of AZ, and Norman (Anita) of Miss. and sister, Thelma Johnson of Mass.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm Tuesday in The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls where a Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday.
