Ellen R. (Mrs. Dwight) Ross died December 26, 2009 from kidney failure. She was 88. Mrs. Ross was born in Columbus, Ohio where she was graduated from Columbus North High School and The Ohio State University.

Mrs. Ross married Dwight E. Ross in 1948. The couple and their two daughters moved to the Akron area in 1957. Mrs. Ross was very proud of her many years of volunteer service to the community. She was a life member of the Women's Auxiliary Board of Akron City Hospital, worked with United Disability Services, and delivered Mobile Meals. She belonged to the Chapter CS PEO Sisterhood, Delta Delta Delta Alumni, Akron Women's City Club, and Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Cuyahoga Falls. Other memberships included the College Club of Akron, the Akron Fortnightly, and the Backyard Garden Club.

Mrs. Ross was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dwight E. Ross, her parents, Albert and Josephine Bowen Rhodes, her sisters Frieda Rhodes Montgomery and Marian Rhodes Sidebottom, and her niece, Sarah Sidebottom Walter.

She is survived by her daughters Dr. Joellyn L. Ross, of Philadelphia and Jain Ross (John) Apple of Brookfield, WI. She also is survived by her grandchildren, John Ross (Hilary), Benjamin Dwight and Samantha Jean Apple; her niece, JoAnn (Robert) Nelson, of Valparaiso, IN. and nephew Stephen (Christina) Sidebottom of Columbus, OH. Mrs. Ross leaves behind her many devoted friends, whom she cherished. The family also wishes to express its gratitude to Deborah Snell, who provided loving care and friendship to Mrs. Ross.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 130 Broad Blvd, Cuyahoga Falls, Oh 44221, Rev. Kirk Bruce officiating. Final resting place Chestnut Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be made to Pilgrim United Church of Christ in her memory.
