Elvira (Vera) Calcagno, born in Ostuni, Italy, Vera came to America when she was six months old in 1922. One of eight children, she grew up in Akron, Ohio, graduating from Central High at 16 years old. She went to Hammel Business College and took a job as a secretary. In 1943, she married Jim and was his wife until his death 60 years later.
Everyone liked mom and she loved meeting people. After raising four kids, she went back to work at North Akron Savings and eventually became a Loan Officer. She took pride in the way she did everything whether it was cooking her lemon meringue pie, doing income taxes for free or just keeping a clean home. If you came over to see Jim and Vee, you usually stayed for a drink and some great food.
She leaves her children, Sally Ede, Nick (Harriett), Vince (Joe), Jim (Julie), grandkids, Mike Ede, Jessica, Gianna, Gianluca, also sister Helen Vitale, sister in-law Sylvia Palmisano and many nieces and nephews. Thanks to the staff at Bath Creek and Hospice of Summa.
