Florence Summy

CUYAHOGA FALLS - Florence Eileen (Meteer) Summy, age 84, Mother, Grandmother, and Educator, slipped quietly from life in her sleep at home, August 7, 2012. Daughter of William F Meteer and Julia A Kerns, she was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1927. Graduating from Hilliard HS in 1945, her early years were spent in Perry Township in a house her father built. OSU class of 1945, she studied Education. After graduation she taught in Lorain and discovered her lifelong love and joy of teaching and co-worker & future husband Robert C. Summy. Married in 1951, they moved to Cuyahoga Falls in 1952 and continued their teaching careers in the Falls school system. Flo taught at Sill for 3 years until Motherhood became her primary occupation. 3 children later she kept busy being a choir & room mother, scout leader, and band chaperon. Finally in 1972, her youngest in school, she was able to return as a dedicated teacher in the Falls. She taught at Grant and Price until retirement in 2000. For fun, Flo enjoyed playing card games, attending Elder Hostel, sewing, knitting and going to Wesley Class Sunday School at First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls. Her greatest and proudest joy of all were her 3 grandsons, whom she dearly loved.

Predeceased by her husband Robert; brothers, James and Charles and sister in law Rita. Flo is survived by children, Julie of Akron, Brent of the Falls, Jan Wallis (Bryan) of Sacramento; CA, grandchildren, Alex Taylor, Neil Taylor, and Joe Wallis; sister-in-law, Lee Meteer and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 4-6 PM on Friday Aug 10 at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls OH, 44221 and one hour prior to a 2 PM funeral service Saturday, August 11 at the First United Methodist Church 245 Portage Trail Cuyahoga Falls OH, 44221, Rev. Katherine L. Osier officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls or Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice Development Foundation 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, Ohio 44333.
