Glenn Earl Smith passed peacefully at home October 30, 2021. Born in Norwood, Ohio on September 1st, 1929, to Florence Elizabeth and John C. Smith. Glenn was employed by General Tire International travelling throughout the world. A veteran of the Korean War, he received a bronze star in 1953 while serving on the front lines and was promoted to Captain in the U.S. Army. He also received a commendation by the Governor of Utah for his leadership in the U.S. Army Reserves Desert Exercises in 1964.
Glenn was a graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School, class of 1947 and received a B.S. in Business Administration at the University of Akron. He was a proud member of the Lone Star Fraternity and R.O. T. C.
He enjoyed his family, golf, painting, and sports. Glenn was head coach of Little League Baseball in Bountiful, Utah taking his team to win the WBBA Little League World Series in 1965. He coached E League Baseball, was Varsity Head Coach for Pee Wee Football in Tallmadge, Ohio, and leader of Boy Scout Troop 362 at Tallmadge Methodist Church, taking his troop on canoe trips to Canada.
A long-time member of Cuyahoga Falls United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday School and was a counselor for the High School Youth Fellowship. He did the same in Bountiful, Utah at the Bountiful Community Church.
Predeceased by his brother, Paul J. Smith, he is survived by his wife of 71 years, Shirley Louise Baker Smith; his five children, Robin, Michele, Mark, Kari and Todd Smith and their spouses; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Glenn loved being involved with his family: fixing breakfast on a camp stove in the mountains, singing while doing the dishes, making the Thanksgiving turkey, or exploring the West. He avidly followed his grandchildren in all their pursuits. His commitment to us was unfailing. Dad will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held at the Clifford Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front Street, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221, on Wednesday November 3rd, 2021, from 6pm to 8pm. The Funeral services will be held on Thursday November 4th, 2021 at 1pm at the First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221.
