Glenwood "Glen" Chester Witsaman Jr.

Cuyahoga Falls- Glenwood C. Witsaman Jr. passed away February 18, 2022 at the Arbors of Stow after several years of declining health.

Born in Akron on October, 15 1930 and living in the Akron area his entire life, Glen graduated from Central High School in 1949.  During his school years he ran track, was a pole vaulter, and played football as part of the 1947 city championship team.

Glen was a proud Navy veteran, serving between 1949 – 1956. Whenever asked which ship he served on, Glen would always joke that the Navy never put him on a ship because he “couldn’t swim.”

Eventually Glen found his way to Goodyear, beginning his career as part of a traveling marketing team affixing signage to local automotive shops across the country.  These travels brought with them fond memories which he shared often, delighting friends and family alike.  Glen spent most of his working years as a single father raising three children following the death of his first wife.  After rising through the ranks at Goodyear to plant manager of the hose department Glen had the privilege of retiring at age 56 after 35 years of service.

His retirement years consisted of raising his youngest child with his second wife, cheering for his granddaughters as they participated in their volleyball tournaments, frequent trips to Florida to visit family and enjoying the benefits of membership and fellowship at the local American Legion.

Other favorite pastimes included woodworking, golfing, hunting, fishing, Friday night football at Walsh High School, and simply laughing with friends.

Glen is preceded in death by his first wife Joanne, son-in-law Lucky, and grandson Nicholas.  He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Susan; children Holly (Michael), Glenna, Glen III (Brenda), and Joshua (Lauren); grandchildren Elizabeth, Carlee (Charlie), Jason, Michael, Chris (Melyssa), Emily (Nick), Kaitlyn, Ian, Lucy, and Alice; 7 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other cherished family members.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 3rd from 5-8pm at Clifford Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front Street, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221.  His ashes will be interred at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Legion Post 281 Honor Guard or the Wounded Warrior Project.
