CUYAHOGA FALLS-Gordon S. Van Waes, 77, passed away April 3, 2017.
He is preceded in death by his mother Evelyn, father Bernard, brother Richard and daughter Cheryl Reynolds.
Gordon started working in broadcasting in his hometown of Kewanee, Illinois on his 16th birthday as radio personality Gordon Vann. Later in his career he adopted the on-air name of "Bob Allen." Bob worked as a play-by-play announcer for high school sports, a disc jockey, show host, and program director during his 56-year career. He truly excelled at his craft and more importantly, loved what he did. In the 70's, he teamed up with Adam Jones and began co-hosting "The Adam and Bob Show." The show was an instant hit and eventually landed on the local radio station WAKR. Bob Allen was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1998 and retired in 2011.
Survivors include wife of 54 years, Nancy Van Waes; sisters, Judith (Tom) Callahan and Sue (Don) Goffrier; daughters, Terri (Steve) Beckman and Kathy (Mike) Galik; son, Robert Van Waes; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 6, from 5-8 p.m. at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. A funeral service will take place Friday, April 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 130 Broad Blvd., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, Pastor Kirk Bruce officiating.
