Grace Hausch

Grace Eleanor (Tschantz) Hausch passed away January 15, 2014 at the age of 96. Born Sept. 16, 1917, she was a life-time residence of Akron and Tallmadge, then recently resided at KentRidge at Golden Pond in Kent, Ohio. Grace was predeceased by husband, Harry Frederick Hausch, parents, William and Margaret (Hodgson) Tschantz, brothers, Harold, Floyd, and Carl, and sisters, Beulah (Peg) Hoover, Florence Hauff, Ethel Stanley, and daughter-in-law, Sue Hausch.

Grace is survived by children, Margaret Handin (Phil), Barbara Rowles, and Fred Hausch (Cindy), grandchildren Pam (Rowles) McCauley (Rodney), Debbie (Rowles) Orostin (Mark), Carrie (Rowles) Pierce (Michael), Greg and Jennifer Hausch, and Mark Handin, step grandchildren Jessie and Gregg Redding, and great grandchildren Meghan, Ryan & Sean McCauley, Chas Orostin, Tara Ferguson, Andrew Pierce, and step great grandsons Austin and Dylan Pierce; also sisters-in-law Ruth (Carl Tschantz) Sendelbach, Ann (Walter Hausch) and Mary (Eugene Hausch), and numerous nieces and nephews of both the Hausch and Tschantz families. Of special mention, niece Janet Hauff, who came from FL on the eve of Harry's death, provided a mutual caring companionship for over a year and a half at Grace's home. Grace attended First Grace United Church of Christ for 60 years, later a member of First Congregational Church of Tallmadge.

Grace was a 1935 graduate of Akron Central High where she was a proud member of the 1934 State Champion A'Capella Choir, Girls Glee Club, and voted "Best Female Dancer" in her class. During WWII, Grace was a "Rosie the Riveter" leader at Goodyear Aircraft while husband, Harry, served in the Army in Italy and Africa.

Grace volunteered for countless charities: United Way, March of Dimes, P.T.A., Alter Circle and Woman's Auxiliary to mention a few. Grace was a long-time member and former repeat president of Margaret's Phi Mu Sorority's Mothers Club. Grace had remarkable insight, strength, endurance, and a compassionate heart. Grace was an amazing mother, wonderful cook, housekeeper, and family matriarch. She and Harry entertained many family events for 25-40 people because family bonds were very important to her. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Cookie Sales Mom, and instilled in her children and grandchildren fine work ethics and values. She took children in need under her wing, was a devoted caregiver to elderly sisters and brother, and lended a helping hand to neighbors and friends. She sewed/altered clothes, made draperies for many, and made beautiful clothes for daughters and grandchildren. For those who knew her, none would forget long conversations around Grace and Harry's kitchen table or front porch. Family wishes to extend thanks to KentRidge nurses and resident aids for their loving care.
