Harold Simpson

HAROLD Simpson, 94, passed away peacefully in his sleep, with family at his side on, April 10, 2016. He was born in Homestead, PA on October 16, 1921, and grew up in Akron, attending Seiberling School and graduating from Akron East High School.

As part of the Army's 11th Armored Division in WWII, he was proud of his service as a tank mechanic, reaching the rank of sergeant. Having seen duty in France and Germany, including The Battle of The Bulge, he shared stories of following the liberating troops into a concentration camp. Harold trained on the Goodyear Squadron and retired from Goodyear after a 43 year career as a machinist, and then in supervision and engineering.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Cuyahoga Falls, where he was active in the Fellowship Class, as a youth advisor, a member of the Session and the Building and Property Committee, and the FOTC men's work group.

Harold designed and built his family's house in Silver Lake, and loved to spend time working in his yard and workshop. He enjoyed woodworking, gifting family and friends with jewelry boxes, doll furniture, and step stools. He also enjoyed working on cars, camping, travel, and time spent with his beloved family and friends. He was a gentle man who was loved and respected by those he encountered.
Harold was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 65 years, Virginia, in 2013; and is survived by children Bruce (Sherrie) Simpson, Sue (Doug) Steidl, and Kathy (Doug) Patton; grandchildren Christina (Derek), Mike (Katie), Tiffany (Kirk), Chris (Ashley) and Josh; great-grandchildren Jackson, Colten, Colin, Jasper and Emmett.
