Harry Alan Walker, 75, of Munroe Falls, Ohio, passed away on June 22, 2024 after a long illness. He was born in Akron, Ohio on March 10, 1949 to the late William and Nancy Walker.
He graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1967 and attended Kent State University. Harry met his wife, Kata (Kay), in 1970 while both worked at Polsky's Department Store in Akron, Ohio. Harry then moved to Chicago where he lived briefly and maintained a long distance relationship with Kay. They eventually settled in Akron, where they were married on December 15, 1973, and soon after welcomed their first son, Chet, followed by a second son, Thomas. In 1984, he moved to Munroe Falls, where he resided until his death.
Harry retired in 2016 after a long-standing career as a machinist, where he demonstrated a strong work ethic every day and gained the respect of his coworkers. He had a firm handshake and his word was his bond.
Through the years, Harry enjoyed watching Cleveland sports teams, especially the Browns, rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes, watching classic television shows, but most of all, spending time with his family. Harry was a quiet, friendly individual who cherished his community. He was a previous member of the Munroe Falls Historical Society and appointed to the Munroe Falls Parks Board by former Mayor Gerald Hupp. He could be seen routinely walking on the hike and bike trail in Munroe Falls. His passion for mentorship was evident through his roles as a youth baseball and basketball coach, roles in which he saw the best in each player and gave each an opportunity to shine. He also served as a Boy Scouts leader. He loved listening to golden oldies on the radio, especially in the car with his sons who knew changing the radio station was not an option. He enjoyed taking care of his yard and feeding birds and squirrels.
Harry was a deeply beloved husband, father, brother, grandpa, uncle, brother-in-law, friend, and neighbor. We will miss him every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. Harry's life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
Harry is survived by his wife, Kay; sons, Chet (Kara) Walker of Solon, Ohio, and Thomas (Johanna) of West Point, Utah; grandchildren, Johannie, Ava, Tommy, and Wyatt; brother, William (Judy) Walker of Austin, TX; sister, Jane (Tom) Gill of North Richland Hills, TX; and many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, John.
The family would like to thank Rachel Thompson of Visiting Angels and Altercare Western Reserve in Stow, Ohio, for their compassionate and loving care of Harry over the past several months.
Memorial donations, if desired, may be made in Harry's memory to the American Heart Association, (https://www.heart.org), Ohio Parkinson Foundation Northeast Region (https://ohparkinson.com) or the Munroe Falls Fire Department.
