CUYAHOGA FALLS -Helen M. Kastein, 93, of Silver Lake passed away on July 20, 2015. She was born on January 30, 1922 to Clarence and Helen Christman. The family moved to Cuyahoga Falls where Helen lived most of her life and graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School.
Preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin of 69 years; brother Donald Christman and nephew Fred Mathews; she is survived by her two sisters: Betty Weitzman, Grace Mathews and sister-in-law Bobbie Christman. She will be greatly missed by her three daughters, Diane Bussan (Ralph), Bonne Kastein, and Beth Carr (Kevin). She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Tina Bussan, Liz (Brian) Bennett, Sara Bussan (Nathan Brown), Caleb Carr and Allison Carr; and two great-grandsons, Tyler and Justin Bennett, and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was a talented seamstress; putting her skills to good use when she worked as a director for Akron Family Services, overseeing a group of ladies who sewed layettes for newly adopted babies. As a member of Oasis, Helen knit over 700 sets of caps and booties for premature babies at Akron Children's Hospital. Helen's greatest joy was spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren. Her favorite activity was playing cards after family and holiday dinners. She felt fortunate that she and Ben were able to spend time gardening and traveling after he retired from Firestone. The family wishes to thank the Memory Care staff at Emeritus of Stow (now Brookdale Sr. Living) and Crossroads Hospice for their compassion and loving care given to Helen and her family.
