Helen Wood

CUYAHOGA FALLS - Helen E. Wood, 94, passed away October 30, 2014. She was born August 16, 1920 to Robert and Ethel Gantz in Akron and resided in the Cuyahoga Falls area most of her life. During the War years she like to be with her girlfriends at the cottage in Portage Lakes and did a lot of canoeing. Helen worked as a Medical Secretary for the Akron Clinic, going on to retire from the Summit County Health Dept. after 34 years of service. She enjoyed her friends there and her job. She like boating, fishing and Upper Michigan trips. She had pet birds and treated them like children. She liked cars and traveled all around. She really liked her white Cadillac. She loved going out to eat and her favorite food was steak. She was a member of St. John/St. Paul Lutheran Church in Akron.
Preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Jack Vance, Vance E. Wood and sister, Thelma Smith. She is survived by sister, Gloria R. Sawyer of Akron, nephew, Robert (Jill) Smith of Cuyahoga Falls, niece, Mary Lou Moore of Phoenix, AZ, and step daughter, Jeanne M. (Jeff) Thompson of Phoenix, AZ.

Friends may call one hour prior to a 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 3 Memorial Service in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH, 44221, Pastor Richard Gordon officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of other remembrances memorials may be made to St John/St Paul Lutheran Church, 282 West Bowery St, Akron, OH 44307 or to your favorite charity.
