SILVER LAKE- Howard B. "Bud" Claflin, 92, passed away September 24, 2013.
Mr. Claflin was born in Akron, resided in Silver Lake the past 30 years and in Cuyahoga Falls most of his life, graduating from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1939. He was a Veteran of WWII, having served with the Army Air Force, 8th Air Force, 385th Bomber Group and was a POW from April 22, 1944 to May 1, 1945. After the War he was in Industrial Sales, established Claflin Co. in 1957 which he operated till he retired in 2002. He was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, a 65 year member of Star Lodge 187 F&AM and the Tadmor Shrine, was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. Bud was a charter member of The Silver Lake Country Club and loved playing golf and the friends he made at the Club.
Preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Margaret P.; parents, Harold and Elva Claflin; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Betty Claflin and great-granddaughter, Aubrey, he is survived by his sons, Brian (Connie), Bruce (Carol), Scott and James (Margaret) all of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren, Tiffany, Brent, Jeffrey, Kimberly, Jill, Kelly, Stacy, Holly, Blake, Brandon, Matthew and Casey 13 great-grandchildren and dear friend, Jackie Winkler.
The Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8:00 pm Friday, Sept. 27 in The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls where a Masonic Service will be conducted at 5:00 pm Friday Sept. 27 by Star Lodge 187 F&AM. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11;00 am Saturday, Sept. 28 in St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 3725 Kent Rd., Stow, OH 44224, Rev. Arthur Cubbon officiating. Interment Northlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other remembrances, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals, 1645 West 8th St, Erie, PA 16505. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 330-928-2147.
