STOW - James S. Durkee, 86, was called to join our Savior and Blessed Mother on December 28, 2013. He was born in Akron and resided in Stow for the past 64 years. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII, going on to work at Mair Jewelry, Goodyear Aerospace, Falls Radio and TV Inc. and was the owner and operator of Dirk's TV. Mr. Durkee was a member of the Goodyear Aero Modelers, the Portage Aero Modelers, the Falls Radio Club (call # K8CLN) and St. Eugene's Catholic Church. He volunteered at Good Neighbors and at Gennesaret.
Preceded in death by his siblings, Bob and Sister Raymund. He is survived by Mary, his wife and teammate of 64 years; son, John and Cora Durkee, daughters, Amy and Shelley; daughter, Mary and Fred Balkanloo, children, Becky, Jim, Matt and Kevin; son, Paul Durkee; daughter, Theresa and Bill Bachtel, children, Audrey, Jonathan and April; daughter, Peggy Durkee; son, Raymund and Dawn Durkee, children Angelia, Raymund II and Jenna; son, Michael Durkee and Rebecca Garner, children, Jeremy and Arica; son, Mark and Marcia Durkee, children, Erin, Rueben and Joseph; son, Chris Durkee, daughters, Channing and Olivia; son Ed and Deborah, daughters, Chelsea, Allison and Amber; 6 Great-grandchildren; siblings, Sister Mary Cabrini and brother, Paul Durkee; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call one hour prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at 7 PM on Monday December 30, at the Queen of Heaven Catholic Church 1800 Steese Rd. Uniontown, OH, 44685. His nephew Fr. David Durkee will be officiating. In lieu of other remembrances memorials may be made to the Gennesaret 419 W. Exchange St. Akron, OH 44302.
