On November 14, 2018, James (Jim, Jimmy) Mohler, loving husband, father of two children, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren went home to be with the Lord at the age of 95. He was born December 14, 1922 in Johnson City, Tennessee to John and Ruth Mohler. During his youth he lived in Standish, New York and Jonesboro, Tennessee and moved to Buffalo, New York before joining the Army Air Corp during World War II.
Jim had a long career in sales which included being founder and president of Packaging Products, Inc. Although Jim was an excellent businessman, his real passion was music. While he could play several instruments he excelled at the trombone and during the war played in several bands that were formed in the units where he was stationed including India, and Okinawa. After the war he played with the Kenny Monroe Band playing Dixieland and big band music around Ohio. The ballrooms at Chippewa Lake, Meyers Lake and Geauga Lake were entertained by the band during the 50’s and 60’s. Jim later played with Dick Jacoby’s Red Garter Trio. He continued to play his beloved trombone into his late 80’s. Jim wrote several songs the last one written at age 93.
Jim and Annabelle were members of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Cuyahoga Falls for 61 years. All of the children at St. Luke’s knew Jim as he would always have gum in his pockets to give to the kids. In order to get the gum they had to tap him on his head and the gum would magically appear from his ear. Jim taught adult Sunday school classes for 22 years. His faith in God was very important to him which he openly shared with his friends and family. Up until a week ago he was still talking about what a blessed life God had given him.
Jim is preceded in death by his brother, Hugh and sister, Blanche and is survived by his wife of 72 years, Annabelle, his daughter, Chris Schroeder (Joe), and son, Jim (Sue), grandchildren, Scott, Jessica Carty (Devin), Adam, and Ian (Erika); and great grandchildren, Cadence Mohler, Kingston Carty and Owen Mohler.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Mulberry Gardens and Mulberry Memory Care as well as Harbor Light Hospice for showing extraordinary compassion and love to Jim over the past 3 years.
