AKRON- James Raymond, 60 passed away December 7, 2023. Jim served his country in the U.S. Army retiring after 23 years. He was self-proclaimed the world’s best handy man. Jim gave himself the nickname “Grumpy” after becoming a grandfather to his sweet “Joey”. Jim spent his younger years being the big brother to two younger brothers and “bad boy”, although someone has to do it with three boys in the house, who can blame him! At the age of 18 he decided to defend our country and went off to boot camp. A few years later he became a dad to one daughter, whom he loved dearly and taught to do all the things that men can do: from building a deck, to changing a tire and rewiring a light. He later went on to defend our country in the Iraq War as an MP, military police for you civilians out there. Jim struggled after defending our country as many Vets do, but he continued to love his family and our country. He lived with his mom who cared for him selflessly after his battle with oral pharyngeal cancer, while she battled her own health issues. He will be missed by many for his caring and loving heart and missed most by his mom Cherie, his daughter “Jamie Princess… (we will leave the rest out)” and his granddaughter “Joey aka Roo aka Josie aka Jos”.
Preceded in death by his father, James A. Raymond; He is survived by his daughter, Jamie (Andrew) Babbo; granddaughter, Joscalynn, mother, Cherie Raymond; brothers, Matthew (Sterrin) Raymond and their children, Nick and Andrew and Timothy (Tracy) Raymond and their children, Atticus (Eva) and Finbar; special friend and former wife, Vicki England Patton; step-children, Brenda Patton, George Patton Jr. and Jonathan (Jade) Patton and many other special family members and friends.
Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to a 2 PM Memorial Service on Friday December 15, 2023. Inurnment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
