CUYAHOGA FALLS -James H. Shoffner, 83, died September 16, 2011. Mr. Shoffner was born in Port Huron, MI and had resided in Cuyahoga Falls the past 35 years. He had worked as a heating and air conditioning engineer and was member of the First Congregational Church of Akron. A Veteran of the Korean War, having served as a Captain for the Marine Corps under Chesty Puller, his military memberships include: American Legion Post 8 in Port Huron, American Legion Charles Faust Post 281, Marine Corps Assn of Quantico and WWII and Korean War Round Table of Akron. Masonic organizations include: Past Master Port Huron Blue Water Lodge 58 F&AM, Aroba Lodge of Perfection 32nd Degree and Scottish Rite Valley of Akron. Other memberships include: Sigma Chi Fraternity Gamma Psi Chapter at Michigan State, Sons of Union Veterans Cuyahoga Falls Branch, Peninsula Civil War Round Table, and the Summit County Lapidary Club and Mineral Society of Cuyahoga Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Susanne E.; children, Lizbeth (Larry) Morton, Janet (Ben) Smith, James H. (Beth) Shoffner, Liselotte Rachel Shoffner (Eric) Powell and Donnell Johann (Cassie) Shoffner; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.
The Family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 26, in The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls where Adoniram-Joppa Lodge No. 517 will conduct Masonic Rites at 10:45 a.m. and where a Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Duane Angel officiating. Final resting place Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Military Rites by American Legion Charles Faust Post 281.
