STOW - James Otis Smith ("Smitty", "Sonny"), 70, died peacefully Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at Akron General Medical Center. He was born April 15, 1936 in Northampton, OH to Harlan Otis and Mabel Violette (Alexander) Smith and resided in
Stow over 20 years. James was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and was a member of the All-American Indian Motorcycle Club and the Lake Erie Chapter of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America. He had been a state trooper in Oklahoma, had served with the U.S. Air Force and was a member of American Legion Charles Faust Post 281.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by beloved wife, Sandra Jean Simon Smith (nee Kline) on Feb. 2, 1996. He was also preceded in death by father-in-law Harry Edward Kline and sisters June Taliaferro and Florence Stalnaker. He is survived by daughter and sons-in-law Catherine and Ernest J. Shipp of Ravenna, Elizabeth and Timothy Knight of Cuyahoga Falls, and Ginger and Duane Rohr of Massillon, Ohio; mother-in-law Ruth Catherine Kline; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Edward and Lois Kline of Stow, John and Lee Kline of Cuyahoga Falls; sisters, Gloria, Violet, Peg and Verna, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special friends Ron and Helen Bevington and a host of nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday in The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls where a Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00 pm Friday, Rev. Mike Bynum officiating. Interment Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Falls Cancer Club, P.O. Box 3244, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223.
