John Barker

John D. Barker "Mopar John", 76, passed away December 14, 2014 at Akron General Hospice Care after a long illness. He was a 1956 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School, going on to attend the Ohio State University and Akron University. John worked for the Chrysler Corporation retiring after 45 years of service. While at OSU he developed a passion for drag racing that would last a lifetime. He won many races, most coming with his 1963 Dodge 330 SS "Old Dependable". John won more than 78 races including the 1963 Nationals in the S/S class. He was a lifelong car enthusiast, loved Ohio sports especially his beloved Buckeyes and enjoyed music. In his retirement years he went back to another early passion of building and flying model airplanes. John was a kind, generous, intelligent man who devoted his life to his children. He will be dearly missed.

Preceded in death by his father, John "Al" Barker; mother, Lucille Barker and grandson, John Barker; He is survived by his brother, Jerry Barker; daughters, Julie Barker and Sue (Rod) Schembechler; son, John Barker; grandchildren, Jakob, Samantha and Alex Keener and his faithful 4-legged companion, Sparky.

Friends may call from 5-8 PM on Thursday December 18 in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH, 44221, where a funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. Dr. Richard Hasler will be officiating. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 330-928-2147.
