John A. "Bud" Moats

Akron- John A. “Bud” Moats, 78, passed away on August 5, 2024. John was born to the late Charles and Vandalia Moats on July 7, 1946. John served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. After his military service, John went on to work for Lawsons in the bakery and as a truck driver for nineteen and a half years. When his time was done at Lawsons, John moved on to Tecumseh Corrugated Box where he continued to drive trucks. Late in life John decided to change career paths and give back to the community. He became a custodian for Cuyahoga Falls City Schools where he enjoyed serving the local community. In 2004, John went through one of the hardest times of his life, the passing of his wife Mary and it was his faith and his family that got him through that time. John was a long-time member of the former St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Akron. After St. Andrews Church closed John became a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Cuyahoga Falls.

 He was preceded in death by his wife Mary; sister, Gale Klett and grandson-in-law, Tom McGarvey.

John will be missed by his sons, Dennis (Holly), Kevin; grandchildren, Katie McGarvey, Genna, Ashley; great grandson, Aaron McGarvey; beloved cat, Calie and many other family and friends.

In lieu of other remembrances memorials may be made to Summit County Humane Society, 7996 Darrow Rd, Twinsburg, OH 44087.

There will be a funeral service at 1pm on Thursday, August 8, 2024, and friends can call an hour before the service, at the Clifford Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front Street, Cuyahoga Falls Ohio 44221. Burial will take place immediately following the funeral service at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
