CUYAHOGA FALLS - John Franklin Thompson, Jr, 86, passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. He was born in Pittsburgh where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts and his Master's degree in Business at the University of Pittsburgh. He later became certified to teach Government and Economics at Nordonia High School for 27 years.
John loved fishing, golfing, traveling and discussing politics, but most of all, he adored his wife of nearly 61 years, Joan Thompson (Donatelli). He passed the day before their anniversary, November 24.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edythe and John Thompson, Sr.; he is survived by his loving wife, his children, John F. Thompson III and William "Bill" Thompson, both of Cuyahoga Falls and Judith "Judy" (Craig) Reeves of Tujunga, California; his grandchildren, Leah (Jasmin Pintol) and Matthew (Anna Rasey) and his great-grandson, Nolan Pintol; his brother, Edward "Ed" Thompson.
His family would like to thank Summa Hospice for all their hard work and loving care for John.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 2 pm in the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3300 Morewood Rd, Fairlawn, OH 44333. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
