CUYAHOGA FALLS - John J. Vogel Sr., 91, passed away September 14, 2015, surrounded by his family.
John was born in South Amboy, NJ and was raised during the Great Depression. While in High School he studied under artists supplied by the WPA and began his interest in art. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII and then graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1951 and furthered his art career at the University of Arizona. He was the 2nd salesman hired by Xerox to serve Ohio and moved to Bath Township.
Upon retirement he resumed his passion for the arts combining realism and abstract in the interpretation of character and actually feeling a sense of rhythm or mood in his images. He coached baseball for the Richfield Rednecks with his teams compiling dominating records. He loved singing and playing his ukulele, reading, movies, golf, surf fishing but family and friends meant everything to him, especially his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by His parents Richard and Susan Vogel; brothers, Robert and Tom and sister, Rosemary, he is survived by his wife, Anne; children, Ruthanne Peebles of Cuyahoga Falls, and John J. (Christian Kennedy) Vogel, Jr. of Los Angeles; grandchildren, Margaret Peebles and Nathan Peebles.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, 9AM at St. Victor Church, 3435 Everett Rd, Richfield, OH 44286, Fr. Allen Corrigan officiating. Final resting place Moore's Cemetery Bath, OH. A celebration of life party will take place at a later date.
