CUYAHOGA FALLS - Joe Saralino - 12-22-1920 to 4-27-2018
Joseph Charles Saralino was born to Italian immigrants Tony and Rita Sgaraglino who both came to the United States from Castelvetrano, Sicily. Joe grew up in south Akron and attended Akron Garfield High School. He served in WWII with the 483rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion in the south Pacific at Iwo Jima.
Following the War, Joe worked at a dry cleaner in south Akron where he met 17-year old Gilda Costa, an immigrant from Calabria, Italy. Joe and Gilda had four children: son, Denny, daughters, Linda and Diane, and son, Mark. Joe was a tire-design engineer at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for over 30-years. Besides tires, he worked on special designs for rubber products that were awarded patents and used by the US military.
His purpose in life and personal satisfaction were all in his kids. Joe was a dad, an entertainer, a teacher, a best friend, a consoler, a cook, and so much more. His kids (sons, daughters, grandkids, and great-grandkids were his life and passion; nothing else was more important to him. He loved to travel, and driving was his favorite mode of transportation. Now on his final journey, he will be missed forever. Everybody liked Joe.
