Joy Lee Makebakken

Joy Lee Makebakken, born on April 9th, 1941, passed away peacefully on March 10th, 2025, at the age of 83. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and cherished friend, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.

Joy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald Harold Makebakken; her parents, Oral and Beulah McIntyre; her son-in-law, David Baughman; and her siblings, Betty Baer, Fred McIntyre, and Gary McIntyre. She now rests in the arms of the Lord, reunited with those she loved dearly.

She is survived by her sons, Ed Makebakken (Mary) and Brian Makebakken (Jamie); her daughter, Kay Baughman; her grandchildren, Cody Makebakken, Kayla Makebakken, Macie Eddleman (Jacob), Josie Baughman, Melissa Hertzog and her son Carter, and Samantha Hertzog; and her great-grandchild, Sutton Eddleman. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Ellen McIntyre and Lynn McIntyre. As well as extended family and friends.

Joy was an avid lover of animals, especially her dog, Heidi, who brought her much joy and comfort. She took great pride in watching her grandchildren grow, and in November 2024, she was overjoyed to welcome her first great-grandchild into the world. Joy had a kind heart and a nurturing spirit, always finding happiness in spending time with her family and friends.

She was known for her sweet tooth, enjoying milkshakes and baking her famous Christmas cutout cookies, which became a beloved tradition in her family. Joy also had a special connection with her late husband, Ronnie, and loved visiting him at the Chestnut Hill cemetery, where she would often feed the ducks, finding peace in these moments of reflection.

The family would also like to express a special thank you to Joy’s caregiver, Jeanie Ellison, for her compassionate and loving care during Joy’s final months.

Joy’s life was one of devotion, love, and laughter. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her family finds comfort knowing she is now at peace with her Lord and reunited with her cherished husband.

Calling hours will be held at Clifford Shoemaker Funeral Home on Friday March 21st, 2025 from 3-5pm with service following immediately after.

Rest in peace, Joy. You are forever loved.
