"Together Again"
CUYAHOGA FALLS -Katherine Schur, 97, died peacefully on September 5, 2017, in Cuyahoga Falls.
Katherine was born June 21, 1920 in Yugoslavia and was the daughter of German Parents, Anthony and Barbara Schill. Katherine at age 17, knowing that she would probably never see her parents or siblings again boarded the Queen Mary just days before England and France declared war on Germany. Katherine arrived in New York City on September 4, 1939 and then made her way to Cleveland, Ohio. She lost two brothers in the war and never did see her parents again.
Through friends, Katherine met and fell in love with Joseph Schur and they married on May 5, 1945 at Saint Bernard's Catholic Church in Downtown Akron. Soon after their marriage, they purchased a home in North Akron and joined Saint Martha's Catholic Church. Katherine worked as a seamstress at Louise's Drapery Shop and O'neils Department Store. She put her seamstress skills to use by making draperies for her, her children and grandchildren's homes. But Katherine was most famous for her pastries and strudel she would make at Christmas time. Joe and Katherine moved to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio in the late 1970's, where they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1995.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph and she is survived by her daughters, Jean McBride of Stow; Kathleen (Ray) Valle of Cuyahoga Falls and son, Joseph Jr. of Cuyahoga Falls.
"Mom" will always be remembered by her grandchildren, Debbie (Jim) Porach, Diana (Frank) Beattie, Denny (Diane) McBride, and great grandchildren, Jessica, Julia, Frankie and CeCe Beattie, Allison, Anthony, and Natalie Porach, Bella and Payge McBride.

The family will be having private services. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice 3515 Massillon Road Uniontown, OH 44685. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
