Kathryn Scrivener

Kathryn E. Scrivener, age 104, of Akron, Ohio , passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Concordia at Sumner Retirement Community. We thank all those that had truly given exceptional care and love to Kathryn in her later years. She enjoyed her time at Concordia immensely always with a smile on her face!  She was born on October 7, 1916 in Akron, Ohio to Dorothy (Bair) Goodhue and Raymond Goodhue. Mrs. Scrivener was passionate about her husband “Scriv” who she married on November 22,1940. Scriv was her dance partner for 67 years. Kathryn had her own dance studio, Goodhue Dance Inc. for 9 years but after Scriv went off to WW II she went to work on the line at Goodyear Aircraft, as “Rosie the Riveter.”

Kathryn stayed home after the war, because she wanted to start a family. Throughout her lifetime, she was involved in numerous organizations volunteering her time to teach dance for the Yusef Khan Caldron and the Eastern Star. She loved bridge, arts and crafts, but dance is where she excelled. She was also a member of First Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and the Cuyahoga Falls Woman’s City Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Turner “Scriv” Scrivener, survived by her daughter and son in law, Jacquie and Lance Mabry of Akron, Ohio, granddaughter Tiffany Moroscak (Jay) of Pepper Pike, Ohio and two great grandchildren, Jack Moroscak, 13 and Kate Moroscak, 8.

Celebration of Life Ceremony for Kathryn will be held at a later date. Memorials in Kathryn’s memory can be made to Concordia at Sumner, Akron Children’s Hospital, or a charity of your choice.  Arrangements entrusted to Clifford Shoemaker Funeral Home.
