CUYAHOGA FALLS - Kenelm "Kenny" F. McCormick passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2008 after an extended battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his family who were the center of his life.
Kenny was born in Akron on February 20, 1925 to William and Caroline McCormick and was a life-long resident of the area. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 and served in World War II as a P.O.W. Camp Guard in Crossville, TN, where he treated prisoners with humanity and without prejudice. He married his wife, Amy, in 1951 and together they made the family he was so proud of. He retired from B.F. Goodrich after 43 years of service. In his free time he loved to travel, play cards and bet the trotters. In 1988 he won a handicapping competition at Northfield Park, where he had many friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his Tuesday afternoon "Euchre Group".
Kenny is survived by his wife and friend, Amy Jean McCormick of Akron; and children, Dr. Kenelm "Fred" McCormick of Akron, Marcia McCormick also of Akron, Becky (Charles) Walker of Cuyahoga Falls and Brian (Kathi) McCormick of Munroe Falls. He also leaves grandchildren, Erin, Amy, Joshua, Rachel, Audrey, Rick, Jessica and Carrie and three great-grandsons. Kenny also leaves behind many good friends who will remember him for his caring and generous nature, most especially his dear friend, Frances.
Kenny loved his grandchildren and taught them many valuable life lessons, such as how to steal the deal and that the key to good fishing is boat control. They will always be grateful to him for the poker lessons even though they knew Grandpa was cheating.
His children will remember him as an amazing man full of humor who helped them create many wonderful memories to cherish. We will miss you, Dad, but know that we will meet you again someday on the road to "Woolsie".
