Kenneth A. Tunstall

CUYAHOGA FALLS- Kenneth Tunstall, 89, passed away on September 10, 2024 in the home where he and his wife Mary had lived since 1960.

Kenny was born in Akron, Ohio to Arnold and Doris Tunstall on July 19, 1935. He was a graduate of Garfield High School, class of 1953, and enlisted in the Army and served in Korea. He served on the Akron Fire department until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he and Mary recently celebrated 50 years of membership.

An avid sports fan, he was involved in his children’s activities and endeavors, whether it be scouting, church group, swim team, marching band, and the arts. His love of football, hockey and the Olympics was enjoyed by everyone around him and he often supported other family and friends in their sports events. He was an avid football player, golfer, bowler, swimmer, ice skater and could water ski on one foot! He also spent many hours volunteering for other organizations, including Open M, Good Neighbors, Relay for Life, and others.

Kenny was the “Dogfather”! There was not a dog he met that didn’t love him. The neighborhood dogs knew where the treats were located and never missed a chance to visit. His grand dogs cried with excitement when they arrived at the house and he always took care of them before any humans.

His biggest joy and legacy would be his unending love for family and friends and supporting them in any household remodeling or DIY disasters, health assistance, and ornery funny remarks.

Kenny will be greatly missed by his children Arnold Tunstall (Ross Dilley), Kevin Tunstall (Mark Brewer), and Kathy Tunstall, and his extended family full of nieces, nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Tunstall, siblings Bernice Stewart, Leonard Tunstall, and Donald Tunstall and many other dear friends and family.

The family would like to thank Summa Hospice staff for their 2 and half years of compassionate care and assistance with his final bout of cancer.

Cremation has taken place and there will be visiting hours from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday, 9/15/2024 and a family service to follow at 3pm. Both the visitation and memorial service will be at First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221.

Arnie, Kevin and Kathy would like to invite you to a Celebration of Life for their parents on 11/17/2024 at Himelright Lodge, 1212 Cuyahoga St, Akron OH 44313. Please bring fun memories of Mary and Kenny. Details to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to Summa Hospice, your local parks service or the First United Methodist Church.

To honor Kenny: pet a dog, go on a hike, attend a child’s event, help someone in need, hug a firefighter and your family and friends.

Arrangements entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 330-928-2147.
