Larry Whetsel

CUYAHOGA FALLS - Larry D. Whetsel went to be with the Lord on December 25, 2015. He was born May 29, 1935, in Mount Pleasant, PA to the late Clarence and Ida Whetsel. He and his wife Jean (Palmer) married in 1955 and moved to Cuyahoga Falls in 1962 living in the same house for over 53 years, sharing countless loving memories. Larry retired from Ford Motor Co. (Walton Hills) after 44 A½ years of proud and loyal service.

Larry was a faithful member of the First Church of God in Tallmadge for many years, volunteering countless hours at his church and JoAnn's Pantry. In addition to helping others in need, Larry especially treasured all the family reunions and many trips to their family cabin in Clearfield, PA. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, making several trips out west. He often shared his love of playing the guitar and singing with others at church, nursing homes and many family gatherings. He inspired many of his family and friends to love music and helping others by volunteering.

Survived by: his wife of 60 years, Jean Whetsel; children, Larry (Patty) Whetsel, David (Rose Reitz) Whetsel, Boni (Troy McKenzie) Dennis, Marci (Brian) Achmoody; grandchildren, Shawn (Carly), Chad (Paulette), Laura, and Sarah Whetsel, and Emma Achmoody; great-grandchildren, Corbin, Noah, Adelynn, Sapphire, Zander, and Brayden Whetsel; brothers, Carl (Ginny), Alvin "A.T.", and Clarence "Junior/Bugs" Whetsel; and countless extended family members, friends, and acquaintances.

Preceded in death by: grandson, Jim Dennis; parents, Clarence and Ida Whetsel; brothers, Raymond and Clyde Whetsel; sisters and brothers-in-law, Juanita (Mel) Neiderhiser, Dorothy (Joe) Franko, Eleen (Wes) Trout; sisters-in-law Ginny and Mae Whetsel.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on 1/2/16 at the First Church of God, 464 Northeast Ave., Tallmadge, OH 44278, with Pastors Josh Deeter and Doug Walter officiating. Calling hours will be at 12:00 noon at the church that same day.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to JoAnn's Pantry in care of the First Church of God 464 Northeast Ave., Tallmadge, OH 44278.
