Silver Lake - Leona June Krisher, who dedicated her adult life to her children and grandchildren, died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at her home in Silver Lake after a one-year fight against small-cell cancer.
Mrs. Krisher spent her final weeks enjoying the company of her family and many friends, especially in the fresh air of her screened-in porch. She loved the warmth of the early fall sun, and would look to the sky as her husband pushed her wheelchair around the block or while she watched the birds at her backyard feeder.
She was born on July 12, 1936 in East Liberty, Ohio, and graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1954.
The former Leona Kramer married Kenneth T. Krisher on Jan. 26, 1957. She was a dedicated mother, raising four children at the family home in Cuyahoga Falls, cooking meals, washing dishes and helping them with their homework. When they were young, she frequently took them to the library.
After her children were grown, she began working at the former Summit County Treasurer's Office, where she quickly became a supervisor in charge of property tax collections until her retirement.
Preceded in death by her mother, Marjorie, in 2001, Mrs. Krisher is survived by her husband, Kenneth, of Silver Lake; a daughter, Kimberly Montoney of Stow; three sons, Terry of Lyndhurst, Gary of Athens, Ohio, and Tom of Saline, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Roberto Krisher of Athens, Ohio; Donald and Dalton Montoney of Stow; Anna and Grace Krisher of Saline, Mich.; Amber Krisher of Cuyahoga Falls; and Mary Dunn of Barberton. She was anxiously awaiting the birth of her eighth grandchild, Ruby June Krisher, in November; three sisters, Patty Newell of Akron; Rita Hammons of Barberton and Sue Barbour of Glasgow, Ky.; a brother, Donald Kramer of Meadville, Pa.; her father, Adam Kramer of Barberton; and aunts Carm Kramer of Cuyahoga Falls and Hilda Smith of Springfield, Ohio; uncles, Steve Kramer of Cuyahoga Falls and Leslie Smith of Springfield, Ohio.
Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Friday in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls where a funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 am Saturday, Rev.
