Leonard Scarbrough

CUYAHOGA FALLS - Leonard G. "Lenny" Scarbrough, 94, passed away at his daughter's residence May 26, 2009. After a little over a year of ill health, Mr. Scarbrough lost his stoic battle to live to 100. He reached 94 with amazing good health until late 2007. He led a quiet life filled with his family and numerous friends and neighbors who reveled in his independent, quiet resolve to live on his own and take care of himself and his home. He loved to garden and be with his buddies at the Italian American Club.
Leonard lost his beloved wife, Margaretta, to whom he was married over 60 years in 1999 after taking care of her in her declining health for a number of years.

One of the greatest memories was his 6 week trip to Europe at the age of 90. He was able to stay and travel with his granddaughter, Debbie and her husband John Kogucki. Together, they would travel to the great castles of England including the "Scarborough Castle" in Scarborough, England where his ancestors were from. They would climb the steep steps of the castles and would marvel at his quick steps with his new found cane to give him just a little more strength and stability. He was able to travel to Italy and see sights he never thought were in his reach. One of the most sorrowful tragedies was the loss of his great-grandson, Rick in 2002.

Also preceding Leonard in death were his father and mother, James and Elvilda Scarbrough and a large family of two sisters and 7 brothers. The only living brother is Leon Scarbrough of Phoenix, AZ. Left to mourn his loss is his only daughter, Joan and her husband, Richard Bobbitt; granddaughter, Debbie and her husband, John Kogucki; grandson, Bryan and his wife, Cherry; great-granddaughter, Annah Bobbitt; great-grandsons, Bryse and Rylie Bobbitt and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Friday in The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls where a Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, Chaplain Mike Shaub officiating.
