Lillian Nash Fitz-Simmons, born April 16, 1914, left this world surrounded by her family and angels to meet our Heavenly Father September 23, 2008.
Lillian was born in Bryan, Texas and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Her long and distinguished career began after graduating with an undergraduate and masters degrees from University of Chicago in the field of nutrition. She began her career in public health at the Infant Welfare Society and was Chief Nutritionist for two years at Cook County Health Department. She then took the position of Chief Nutritionist for Evanston Health Department, where she remained for 20 years.
Lillian helped establish the rules and regulations for long term care facilities for the Illinois State Health Department. Additionally, she taught masters classes in nutrition for registered nurses at DePaul, Loyola and North Western Universities.
As a member of the Meals at Home Board of Directors, she was instrumental in establishing the program which delivered hot lunches and cold dinners to over 200 Evanston residents per week.
Lillian retired from public service at age 70, moved to Ohio in 1993 to be close to her family. Gardening was an active pasttime which added great joy to her life.
Preceded in death by her husband, Duke Clare Fitz-Simmons, she leaves her daughter, Lucile Clare Tereletsky; grandsons, Mark Scott and Michael Duke Tereletsky; sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 28th from 1 to 3 p.m. at Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221 (330-928-2147). A celebration service follows immediately at 3 p.m., officiated by Dr. Janice Skeen. On September 30th at 2 p.m. a graveside celebration service will be held at Rosehill Cemetery and Mausoleum in Chicago (773-561-5940) and will be officiated by Pastor Tammy Wischnack. Guests will assemble at Drake and Son Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Drake and Son is located at 5303 North Western Ave., Chicago, Illinois 60625 (773-561-6874).
