Lois Jean Owen, 93, was called home and entered the comforting arms of her loving God on January 19, 2025, at peace, and with her son and daughter-in-law by her side.
Born in New Brighton, Pennsylvania on August 11, 1931, to Raymond and Jane (nee Slater) Scott, Lois resided in Beaver Falls, Pa. with a brief residence in Billings/Livingston, Montana, in the late 1950s, before relocating with her only child Robert, to East Cleveland, Ohio in 1959.
Lois was employed as an Executive Administrative Assistant with Trygve Hoff & Associates, an engineering firm in Cleveland, and, after they closed, continued her career in that capacity with other firms in the engineering and steel industry, until finally retiring from the Steel Service Center Institute. During this time, she was raising and caring for her young son Robert, this at a time when a young, single, working mother was not the norm. Did a bang up job, too. I turned out great! She continued to work, part time, at Macy’s, primarily for the social engagement and to get out of the house, but also for the great employee discount, which she used with obscene effectiveness.
Lois was a longtime resident of Bedford, Ohio until her death, and over the years her interests were many and varied. She was a gardener, knitter, amateur seamstress making her own clothes, and at one point a novice tennis player. Lois was a Red Coat with the Cleveland Playhouse Square Association for many years, as well as a faithful member of Saint Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Macedonia, Ohio, where she was a longtime member of the choir, among other volunteer duties. She loved her various ladies groups, her book club, and the Holy Chatter ladies study group at St. Tim’s.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters-in-law Raymond and Margaret Scott, and Paul and Ethel Scott. She is survived by her son Robert (Carla DiMauro), brother Dale (Carol) Scott, Grandchildren Courtney (Thomas) Austin and Trevor Owen, as well as Great Grandsons Henry and Graham Austin.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Maplewood Senior Living and Memory Care (you know who you are), as well as the nurses and staff with Crossroads Hospice, for your compassionate care. We love you all.
Services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025 at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 8667 Shepard Rd., Macedonia, OH 44056. Visitation with the family will be at 10 am with Service to follow at 11 am. Interment at Crown Hill Cemetery will be private, at the family’s convenience.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial in Lois’ name to The Alzheimer's Association at alz.org, St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, or the Summit County Humane Society.
