Margaret Jane Murphy

Margaret “Peggy” Jane Murphy, 81, passed away January 8, 2025 at her home in Canal Fulton, following a brief illness.

She was born on October 28, 1943 in Akron to the late James “Doyle” and Judith (Jones) Murphy. She retired several times from a variety of places, working at Goodwill Industries, Weaver Workshop/Summit County Board of DD, Constant Companions Day Program, and most recently, Echoing Connections. She loved to crochet, knit, and sew, making her family and friends many scarves, hats, slippers and blankets. She enjoyed Nancy Drew books, coloring, telling jokes, and word searches. Her favorite things besides her beloved family were Josh Turner, Elvis Presley, Polar Pops, Starbucks Frappuccinos, and Pop-Tarts. If you showed up to visit her, you better be armed with one of those! She enjoyed listening to music, watching Deal or No Deal, and her cooking shows.

The number one highlight of Peggy’s life was being reunited with her son, Scott, in 1995. Spending time with her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren/great-grandchildren blessed her life in so many ways over the years. Another memorable moment that brought her such joy was getting to meet Josh Turner after his concert.

She is survived by her son, Scott (Diana) DeVault, brother, James (Debra) Murphy, nieces and nephews, Jean (Steve) Giunto, Katie (Andy) Black, Joshua Murphy and Matthew (Joanna) Murphy. Grandchildren Jenni (Tony) Garavaglia, Steven (Javi) Sonnier, Brandon (Katharina) DeVault, Carina DeVault, and Eric DeVault. Great-Grandchildren London, Jayce, Ryder, and Allistair. Great-nephews & nieces, Nathan (Micayla), Brandon, Aly (Anthony), Drew, Alex, Ezra, Iris and Emma.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her best friend, Betty Brown.

We are eternally grateful for the amazing family she had at Echoing Ridge, who loved and cared for her as their own up to her death. The family was blown away at the amount of staff that came to show her love and support in those final days. We also are thankful to Mercy Hospice for providing such beautiful care to her during the end of her life. As one of the staff at Echoing Ridge said to us, everyone needs a little Peggy in their life.

Friends may call from 4-6PM, with a funeral service officiated by Pastor Shane Minné at 6PM on Friday January 17, 2025, at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221.
