Beth retired from The Sill Middle School. She was also the manager of various other schools in the Cuyahoga Falls School District. She had completed 22 years of service at the time of her retirement.
Beth was a proper lady and an adventurous person during her life. With ideas made, she would always be an intent person of fulfilling her hardest task. Being a person who performed the duties of a school food service manager, she learned well the patronage that one desires in this employment. The children and staff were always greeted respectfully by Mrs. Butler and she dearly enjoyed being with them each day.
Recipes in volume were her specialty and executing them to fit the mouths of many, were just minor tasks for the accomplishments of Beth. Loved by many, she was respected with honor and esteem. She always accomplished her job with words of well done.
Beth carried her love of baking at home. Several new recipes came her way and she accomplished the fulfillment of them with a special love. Beth's special applesauce muffins were always an expectation of any one coming to visit. The grandchildren became very familiar with the little masterpieces.
The aroma of Beth's Peanut Butter Blossoms were admired by many of her family and friends. The blossoms were arranged precisely in an array of a beautiful circle and they sat proudly on her kitchen counter. One couldn't pass by without a sample or even two. Her kitchen forwarded many delectable flavors during her days at Cuyahoga Falls. The recipe drawer was always a treat that many enjoyed during their visits.
The art of crafting took over another large part of Beth's life. She forever enjoyed making dresses, lap robes, and doll clothes for her grandchildren. She indeed had the gift of joining material together to create tremendous finished garments. This gift came from her mother Jane Howard, as she would make clothes for Elizabeth. The clothes were especially admired while Art and Elizabeth were courting and pictures were sent to Art while overseas in WW II. Being involved for years in the Cuyahoga Falls Cancer Club, she generated many items to sell at their craft fairs. Beth's last office in the club was correspondence secretary. She would write and phone all her patients in their time of need.
Elizabeth's pride and pleasure was of course her family. In their childhood years many would express how precise her boys were dressed in their Sunday attire each week. They were the talk of the church family in that they were dressed in an appropriate manner with suits, ties and hats. Mom-Mom certainly enjoyed the new little blessings of her grand & great grandchildren. Getting to know them were moments of love and deep affection. All of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were indeed the living purpose of life to Mom-Mom. The many cards, calls and visits at 2600 Maplewood were great highlights of Mom-Mom's days being with her children.
God gives many gifts to His children and Beth was a special child of His. She enjoyed going to church and listening to the message that God had for her that particular day. Beth had a sense of patience and a peace of gentleness in her heart. Doing and helping were challenges that Beth succeeded in. While in NY there were the moments of fulfilling and completing the thoughts and memories of her 89 years of life. Elizabeth would wander in thought of her days of growing up on the Howard farmstead. Days of being a small child and her school days. Then often reminiscing about her life as a wife and mother in West Virginia and in Ohio. The heartfelt stories were many and Elizabeth was such a proud lady to pass on her heritage to anyone that would listen. God has now given Elizabeth's family a new chapter in their lives to remember and reminisce with their families. God gave a precious gem to the many that knew her and now have become a better person by knowing Elizabeth.
