Munroe Falls- Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Bevan, born February 5, 1924, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2016.

Daughter of Frances (McLaughlin) and Samuel W. Shirk of Wynnwood, Greensburg, Indiana. Mary Elizabeth was reared on her family farm, graduated from Greensburg High School, received a music degree from Western College for Women, and a teaching degree from Cleveland State.

After her marriage to Art Bevan on June 29,1946, she resided in East Cleveland, Ohio, until 1968. Another move was made to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, where she carried out her teaching career. Many of you might recall that Mrs. Bevan was one of your classroom teachers. Mom loved to minister through choir, flute, piano, and organ music at the East Cleveland Baptist Church, Cuyahoga Falls Baptist Church, and Faith Fellowship Baptist Church.

Throughout her long life, she followed her family tradition to serve others using the gifts and talents she had been given by God. Some people will remember her as their flute or piano teacher. Mom shared her love of nature, wildflowers, and birds as a Girl Scout Leader or Camp Counselor at Camp Koinonia and as a supporter of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association. She took leadership roles in Western College Alumnae Association, American Baptist Women's Association, Camp Koinonia Board, and Outdoor Education Programs. Mom was well known for her talents in the kitchen, especially for her baking enjoyed by her family, church, friends, and students.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur J. Bevan, Jr., and brothers, Stanton, David, and George Shirk; sister and brother-in-law Mary and Charles Schafer. She is survived by her children, Annette (Richard) Gallagher, Alexander (Deidre) Bevan, Lynn (David) Klein, Mary Frances Bevan, Nancy Bevan, and Tim Tirrell; Nine grandchildren, Megan (Erik) Fogt, Glen Gallagher, William Bevan, Joshua (Rachel) Klein, Cara (Adam) Vincent, Bethany Klein, Pax, Faith, and Bree Tirrell ; Seven Great-grandchildren Kaelan Fogt, Andrew, Evan, Casey, and Nathan Klein, Reid and Nora Vincent: brother, Charles (Patricia) Shirk; nephews, Tom (Glinda) Schafer and Jim (Kathy) Schafer, Roland (Donna) Shirk, Roger (Carol) Shirk; nieces, Linda (James) Volk, Nancy (Michael) Fort, Ann (Mark Keppel) Shirk, and Melissa Freeman; beloved family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mulberry Gardens Assisted Living for their constant, loving care and friendship during Mary's residency.

Friends may call at Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3rd., The Funeral Service will be conducted at 7 PM, Reverend Jill Smith officiating. Interment at South Park Cemetery, Greensburg, Indiana on Wednesday, May 4th, at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to http://welcome.guidedogs.com/> or to the charity of your choice.
